My Experiences of Queen Mab

By Morgraine

The Lady Herself says you're far better off experiencing Her for yourself; however Johnny Mab has asked me to post some of my own, so I’ll try. I certainly don’t profess to know it all here and indeed, I am still learning..

Her Magic is only just starting to become recognised as more and more people are waking up to Her. I see Queen Mab as Miranda Richardson played Her in the first Merlin film, mainly because that is how She has chosen to appear to me. However, She appeared to me in dream state once and tested me to the limit, really scared me. In this She had crystalline features, I remember saying, ‘Okay, you wanted to scare me, I’m scared, what next?’

I personally see Mab as the Queen of the Fey; however other people may have a different viewpoint to that. In 'Merlin', She was Queen of Darkness, but I am afraid they do not know the Lady well. ‘Mab’ is a corruption of the name Mebh or Maeve from Irish folklore (as in Queen Maeve of Connaught, yes, that one who did battle with Chu Chulainn), also it has links to the Morrigan, or Modron, the washer by the ford, and to Morgana le Fey. Mab also means ‘queen wolf’ and ‘mead’. Her activities include war, revenge, sexuality and fertility, though I would add magic to that.

Mab is also like a mother to me, an aunt, counsellor and advisor. She’s also taught me a few things. A couple of years ago I was having trouble with my neighbours. Mab appeared to me knitting. I asked her what she was doing, ‘I’m stitching her up’ she replied, and she sure did.

When my handbag got stolen in 2000, Mab came to me and help me refocus and gain a sense of perspective, when I seemed to hit a blank wall in help from the Egyptian gods (I’m afraid to say). She said. ‘Concentrate on the practical and mundane’, and with this I was able to sort out the more down to earth issues.

Which is why I became Her Priestess, and She in turn gave me the Faerie name of Morgraine. Why I’ve no idea, however I’m not going to argue with Her! And here’s the weird part, when I visit the Land of Magic, I become my alter ego Morgraine, similar in appearance to Mab with the long black hair and robes (In real life, I’m fair).
